Typically speaking, in most tournaments that consist of ten players, up to three are novices and maybe only two are really good players. That means that there is always a very good chance of you being in the top three.
The money for the prize of sit-n-go tournament is the total buy-ins from all players. The top three players are usually awarded the prize money. It is divided in the ratio 50:30:20 amongst the three winners.
Sit-n-Go tournament is a great way for a
good poker player
to earn some money on a regular basis. With each tournament lasting for not more than an hour, it is possible to play several games in a day. Also, with a reasonably good knowledge of the rules and strategies, you are likely to play more and win more with every tournament.
Simple rules to follow to win in a sit-n-go tournament
The first and most important rule to win consistently at Sit-n-Go tournament is to be disciplined. Once you have established a game plan, be disciplined and stick to it. Try not to be tempted by table conditions to have a go. Staying
until the last round and into the top three is your ultimate goal, so don’t be swayed by anything else that will deviate you from that path. Your philosophy in a sit-n-go tournament must be based on limiting your risk as much as possible.
Next, play only strong, solid and premium hands, which include pairs, suited connectors, AK, AQ. You can also play AJ and A10 suited but only if in the late position in an un-raised table. Don’t be tempted to do otherwise, as there are enough players who will play anything to draw you out of the game, and often be lucky at doing it too.
When you hit a good hand, bet on it hard. You are likely to take most pots by doing this. If you get a call you will be well placed, as you will probably have the best starting hand. However, if you get a re-raise and you don’t have aces or king pair, do not hesitate to fold.
